Man United news: Mourinho urged to play DEFENSIVE football against Chelsea - BBC pundit
Manchester United came from two goals behind in their last Premier League match to beat Newcastle 3-2, but have been warned about playing an attacking style against Chelsea. Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas claims it would be a “smart move” from the Manchester United manager to approach the game with a “Jose Mourinho style of play”. The United boss has been criticised for coaching his sides to play in a defensive manner, but Jenas said the Red Devils would be “destroyed” if they are too attacking against Chelsea on Saturday. Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport, Jenas said: “We’re talking about this in a way that it is negative towards Jose Mourinho. “I actually think it is a smart move from Jose to go to Stamford Bridge with a Jose Mourinho style of play, and come out of there with something. “Rather than this whole, ‘look at what we done in the last half-an-hour against Newcastle United, let’s go and do that every week’. “No, you will get picked apart and you will get destroyed at Stamford Bridge if you do that.” Speaking during his press conference before the Chelsea match, Mourinho claimed the positive “feelings of the last match” against Newcastle remain with many of the players. He said: “I felt that after the match, then, as you say, it looks an eternity [with the international break]. “They go and they come and they come back step by step, and even today we don’t have every player back. “So it’s a bit strange when you come from the international week, but I think the feelings of the last match remain so the players are fine, are happy and focused on the match." The 55-year-old manager also said: “For me, it’s another game. “Would I celebrate like crazy, my team goal at Stamford Bridge or my team victory at Stamford Bridge? I don’t think so. “I think I would try to control myself and to respect the stadium and the supporters that were my supporters and stadium for many years. “To do that should be something where I completely lost my emotional control, which is not easy, so I would think which stadium I am in, which public is in the stands, but apart from that, it’s another match for me. “I want to do well for my team, players, support, I am 100 per cent Manchester United tomorrow, no more space than respect for the stadium and the fans.” Manchester United have had a tough start to the season, while Chelsea, rejuvenated under Maurizio Sarri, remain unbeaten going into the match.
