Thousands of Hong Kong residents to the streets of Kwun Tong industrial district on Saturday to march in protest of the new smart CCTV lamps the government has recently installed when police showed up to disperse the crowds.

Hong Kong police used tear gas for the first time in 10 days to break up pro-democracy protests after some activists threw petrol bombs and bricks in Kowloon Bay.

The wider calls for democracy have plunged the city into an unprecedented crisis posing a direct challenge for Communist Party leaders in Beijing. Many said they feel their privacy has been invaded by the \"smart lamp\" surveillance.
